REVIEW: Eugene O'Neill's RECKLESSNESS at American Theatre of Actors

I recently wrapped up Eugene O’Neill’s Recklessness at American Theatre of Actors off-off Broadway, where I played scheming maid (and possible stand-in for the playwright), Gene.

Arts Independent did a review of the O’Neill double bill, including a nice notice about my work:

“Emmy Potter adds more fire onstage as the scorned, scheming maid Gene, whose revenge-minded meddling leads Arthur to make a terrible, vengeance-driven decision.”

UP NEXT: Eugene O'Neill's RECKLESSNESS at American Theatre of Actors

I’m appearing as Gene in Eugene O’Neill’s 1916 rarely-performed, early career one-act, Recklessness at American Theatre of Actors from December 17th-21st. The play is part of a double bill with A Wife for Life, O’Neill’s first play from 1913.

Recklessness is about a woman tries to escape her loveless marriage to a wealthy businessman by having an affair with their chauffeur, which leads to devastating consequences.

The play is directed by John DeBenedetto.

American Theatre of Actors, Inc. (ATA) was founded in 1976 by James Jennings to promote the development of new playwrights, directors and actors, and to provide them a creative atmosphere in which to work. The plays are dramas, comedies, and hybrids, dealing with the social and ethical problems of contemporary society.

A House in the Suburbs at American Theatre of Actors

After making my debut as the Nurse in Seneca’s version of Phaedra last fall, I’m headed back to American Theatre of Actors as the Mother in the world premiere of A House in the Suburbs by Bruce Lawder.

Set in the mid-60s…

the play looks at a typical New England family as they wrestle with the Vietnam War, the changing social mores, and the loss of Father’s job and their idyllic home.

The play is directed by John DeBenedetto and runs January 25-29 and Feb 1-5 in the Beckmann Theater (2nd fl) at American Theatre of Actors on W. 54th St and 8th Ave.
